How to repair a damaged backlight panel?

For users of segment LCD screens, backlight panel failures can be troublesome. A backlight panel includes: light source, reflector film, diffuser film, frame tape and LED chips. Damage may occur during production. Should you repair a broken backlight?
First, identify which part is damaged. A backlight panel consists of multiple components. Normally, the light source is not easily damaged unless exposed to high temperatures, which causes softening and deformation — such damage is irreparable.
Three parts can be repaired if scratched: reflector film, diffuser film and frame tape. Repair cost is low — simply replace the damaged film.
If LED chips are damaged and not lighting up, repair is not recommended. LEDs are glued tightly, and removal risks damaging the light source. The repair complexity and risk must be carefully evaluated.
